Our Athena Advocate Partners are a key group in the Athena Breast Health Network. The role of our Advocates is to provide input and guidance to Athena-wide initiatives. The group is comprised of patient advocate representatives from each Athena site and community members with expertise in public health, health policy or breast health in California and nationally. Current members have affiliations with patient advocacy organizations including Zero Breast Cancer, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered), LIVESTRONG, The Cancer League, Inc., and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Our Advocate Partners meet on a monthly basis to advise on program implementation, review educational materials, provide feedback on research initiatives, and deliver recommendations to improve the patient experience throughout the stages of breast health care. Partners also participate on monthly Athena Clinical Care and Research Team meetings in which all members of the statewide network set clinical and research goals in the areas of radiology, pathology, screening, prevention, and survivorship care.
The Advocate Partner group includes a designated member from each of the five UC Athena sites who meets regularly with their site teams to advise on local Athena program development and implementation. Membership in the group includes attendance at quarterly Athena retreats where the entire statewide network of partners meets to formulate and evaluate Athena initiatives.
